Holistic and Medical Approaches to Childbirth Preparation
Childbirth Preparation can be of a Holistic approach or a Medical approach.
A Holistic approach emphasizes minimal medical intervention in the childbirth process. It encourages natural delivery making it an intuitive and empowering experience. It includes medication-free pain management (through massage therapy, deep breathing, positive visualization and hydrotherapy), a calm and soothing atmosphere, with birth professional such as midwives and doulas by your side. By doing so, it aims to facilitate the labor and birthing progression naturally.
A Medical approach utilizes modern medicine as it's basis in the childbirth process. It is performed by qualified medical professionals with expertise in childbirth to allow the mother to get all the medical assistance and treatment that she may need during childbirth. In this approach, labor can be managed with medications and induction, and surgical approaches such as Caesarean section or forceps application may be employed as needed.
